Family Residence
Yarmouth, Maine
Halfway between Portland and Freeport, surrounded by the Royal River and Casco Bay, Yarmouth is a small town on Route 1 known for its annual Clam Festival. In the spring of 2019, Rousseau Reclaimed sourced vintage barn board for flooring, wainscoting, and shelving in a family residence on the Royal River. The home is the perfect balance of rustic and elegant, with vintage and contemporary pieces throughout. The focal point of the kitchen is the blue vintage stove set on a wide plank barn board floor. John Rousseau sourced this barn board from two salvaged barns in central Maine. The age and character of the wood complement the antique fixtures of the room.
In the dining room, a wide plank floor and wainscoting provide a warm, cozy atmosphere that is also light and inviting. Single-color accents provide a contrast to the golden tones of the barn board flooring. Reclaimed lumber transforms a small alcove into a serene meditation space, with floor-to-ceiling shelves and ceiling feature.
